Oil on 24"w x 17 "h basswood panel, 2024

This photo of a lovely waterfall in Munich, Germany was shared by the Landscape Art Club and the concept of this piece was loosely inspired by a painting from 1875 called Gremlins in the Studio, II by Martin Johnson Heade. It’s hard to see but if you look at his painting closely, the lake is overflowing into the studio space, and there’s a gremlin under it.

I love this idea of liquid breaking out of an image, and this was the first of two where I explored this idea. (The second is Scene of the Wine, also on this site.)
