I'm Teresa Pereira:  a painter, high school art teacher, graphic designer, and muralist who lives in Southern, NY. I graduated from Fordham University, College at Lincoln Center, with a BFA in Fine Arts, where I was awarded the Studio Art Award for painting.

I’m also a community art teacher who coordinated art workshops in local libraries and for the Hudson River Museum. In addition, I’m  an active art exhibitor in galleries in the Westchester area and its surrounds, and has had work exhibited in The Riverfront Gallery and Urban Studio Unbound in Yonkers, The Carriage Barns Art Center in New Canaan, Edward Hopper House in Nyack, The Gallery at the Rye Free Reading Room (solo show), the Arts Westchester Gallery, Yonkers Arts Gallery, Pelham Art Center, and Yellow Studio in Cross River, among others.

I’m also a member of the National Association of Women Artists, Arts Westchester, and the National Art Educators Association.

In teaching art over the years—especially to teenagers—I hav learned a great deal about my own art. Witnessing the experience of “learning to make art” is continually
an eye opening one, and I believe it has helped me expand my own skills.

My style is highly figurative and realistic, but often with a slight to moderate hint of surrealism mixed in. I equally enjoys painting landscapes, portraits and still life—from life whenever possible, but also from photos. A lover of nature, my work often incorporates some botanical elements. Leaves, flowers, and trees frequently find their way into my art.

Much of my work focuses on imagery that includes paintings within paintings, reflections, and meta and recursive imagery. I’ve always been interested in conveying interaction between a painting’s main subject and elements around that subject. Whether it’s the
overflow of water, a butterfly breaking out of wallpaper, or breaking into another pictorial space, there’s some aspect of movement or interaction.
