One of the "More to It" series currently on view at Harrison Public Library until June 4th,Dearly Departed Tulips is a study in glass, flowers, and the stories shadows tell.
 
Someone recently asked me which paintings were my favorites and I showed them four from my catalog (two are portraits of my kids). I think I may have to include this new one in that group. It was such a pleasure to immerse myself in the space of it.

I usually work from life when painting still life but this was done from a photo reference using the grid method because it was a complex concept and composition. I’ve been using oil pastels for the first layer for my more detailed paintings and really love how they help me map out colors and shapes.
